Stay Well for Life

Updated: Jan 9, 2022

Earlier this year I swam around Palamutbükü, a little island off the Aegean Datça Peninsula in Turkey. Half way around I was tired. The waves were big. I couldn't see the shore. I rounded the island and saw my destination. After four hours, I made it back and laid in the sand exhausted but refreshed.

We were on holiday with our good friends. They have been our neighbors since we moved to the North Aegean in 2004. That evening we went to buy fish in the village. We grilled, drank chai, laughed, and told stories until bedtime. The Turkish saying, "May your worst day be like this" means something like, it doesn't get any better than this. I felt that.

I live on the Aegean coast in the beautiful country of Turkey. I love the sea and the mountains. I love my neighbors. I love life. I was born in 1966 in the United States and moved to Asia when I was two months old. I have lived most of my life in Asia. I was 34 when Gwen and I moved to Turkey with our young boys. Gwen told me then, "I could grow old here." I agree. I'm in my mid-50s now. Our boys are now adults. I have tried to stay well through the years. And I try to stay well as I grow older.

Aegean Fitness is the practice of lifelong total wellness. I talk about things like plenty of exercise and good nutrition. I also talk about reading, rest, prayer, friendship, and many other things that provide overall health. I talk about where I live because I love my home here in Turkey. But, I have lived many places and still practice Aegean Fitness everywhere I go. You can, too.
